Happiness: A Personality Trait or a Choice?

Is happiness within our control…or are we destined to be more or less happy because of our personalities?

Have you ever wondered if some people were just predisposed to being less happy than others?

If there was something in their DNA…or maybe their personality or upbringing…that makes them more negative than other people?

A friend of mine shared at her mother-in-law’s funeral that this sweet woman was not a glass-is-half-empty or a glass-is-half-full kind of person.

No, she was a glass-is-overflowing kind of person.

(Thank you, Kim, for sharing this with me!)

Her saying that really got me thinking…

Was it it that causes one person to be more joyful than another?

What did Kim’s mother-in-law have….or do…that I’m sometimes missing?

Because if I’m being really honest, I’m not always as happy as I’d like to be.

And I want that to change.

I want to be like my friend’s mother-in-law: a glass is overflowing kind of person.

Or like a woman that goes to my church named Joyce.

When I see Joyce, she ALWAYS – and I mean always – has a smile on her face. I know she has bad days too (we all do) but her joy is always present. No matter what.

And I want to be like that.

So…

Do you want to join me as I begin a Happiness Experiment?

I’m going to test and see for myself if some of the common happiness advice out there actually works.

Now, I know it’s not that simple. There’s not a list of things that will guarantee happiness: “Do X,Y,Z and you’ll be happy.”

That isn’t reality.

Happiness can’t be manufactured just by completing a list of items.

BUT…

Is it possible there are some universal habits that can help even a glass-is-half-empty type of person find more joy?

That’s what I want to find out.

I’ll be sharing about the habits I’m implementing, and I’d love it if you’d join me and let me know your thoughts about each habit too!

Comment here and let me know if you’d like to join me!!

No requirements to join. Just watch this space, and jump in when you’re able!
