Why It's Okay to NOT Be Okay

Brokenness is not the enemy. The devil is the enemy.

It’s okay to NOT be okay.

If you’re going through something and you wonder if it’s time for you to “be over it,” but you don’t feel like you are…it’s all right. You don’t have to be okay right now.

For some reason, we look at brokenness like it’s the enemy, but brokenness is NOT the enemy. The devil is the enemy. (Click to tweet this.)

Brokenness, on the other hand, is often what God uses to make us stronger.

The other day, my two-year-old son tore one of the pages in a book of ours. I grabbed a couple of pieces of tape and put them on both sides of the page.

Something interesting happened to those pages after I taped them up. Now, instead of being broken and torn, these pages are stronger than the rest. You can pull on them, but they won’t tear easily.

What used to be the broken page is now the strongest page in the entire book.

I think sometimes that’s how it is with us. We hate being broken, but God uses that brokenness to make us stronger.

Here’s how it works….something happens to us that breaks our hearts. Maybe it’s the loss of a loved one or the death of a child. Maybe it’s a rocky relationship or a divorce. Maybe it’s financial difficulty or a disease.

Then, in the months and years following, God begins putting us back together again. For years, it might feel like we’re broken. For years, it might feel like we’re making no progress whatsoever.

But God is working behind the scenes, delicately putting our hearts back together again…and in the process, making our hearts stronger.

That’s why it’s okay to be broken. That’s why it’s okay to NOT be okay…

Because God might be using your brokenness to make you stronger.

Let’s talk: Has God ever used something that broke you to make you stronger?

Thank you, that was such a great message. When your in the moment of heartache your forget its for a reason. My husband and I have so much on our plate right now, and going through so many changes, and its definitely taking a toll on our marriage. This message is now making me look at everything different. The devil is working in our life’s and I will not allow it. We can and will come out stronger…

Being separated from my husband has made me stronger. I no longer have the worry if he will come home or not from a night out of drinking. My kids have stability and not having to worry if he is ok. I went through many years thinking he would change, however he does not live for God and does not set an example for our children. I am proud to say I can do it being single. It is hard and I thank God daily for giving me the strength.
