A Worst-Case Scenario Mindset

“How many times have we created entire story lines based on worst case scenarios?” Jennie Allen

I’m curious. Have you ever done this? ☝️

I sure have.

And I really don’t know why.

Why don’t I instead create a story line based on best-case scenarios?

Why does my mind insist on focusing on what could go wrong…instead of on what could go right?

Maybe it’s self-protection.

Maybe it’s because I think deep down in my subconscious that if I prepare myself for the worst, I’ll be ready for it if and when it comes.

This mindset is not serving me…and it’s not serving you either.

let's stop living our lives expecting the worst and start living our lives hoping for the best.

So today, I want to challenge that mindset …both for you and for myself…because of 2 things:

1. Many of the things we worry about happening aren’t ever going to happen.

So we are literally wasting minutes…hours…or even days fixated on a fear that’s not going to come to fruition.

2. Have you ever heard the saying, “What you focus on grows.”

I think of it a lot with parenting. When we focus on all our kids are doing wrong, sometimes, we inadvertently encourage that behavior.

On the other hand, when we focus on the good things we are seeing – praising them or what they are doing well – they will be more encouraged to do those things more often.

So….if you want more good behavior, draw attention to the good you see.

This isn’t clear cut, of course. Nothing is parenting is that black and white. But I think it’s worth thinking about.

And it applies to our thoughts too.

The more we focus on the bad things that might happen, the more negatively we feel.

Negativity breeds more negativity.

Positivity breeds more positivity too.

Jennie Allen also said this: “Our tool in defeating ‘what if’ is found in two words: ‘Because God.'”

What if the worst case scenario does happen?

What if the thing you fear actually comes to pass?

Then, ya know what?

God will carry you through it.

It will still be hard – maybe even brutal at times – I don’t want to minimize anyone’s pain – BUT…because God…we can face whatever tomorrow might bring.

So let’s stop living our lives expecting the worst and start living our lives hoping for the best.
