Simple Ways to Teach Your Kids about Jesus’ Resurrection (for the non-crafty mom)

Are you looking for some ways to teach kids about Jesus’ resurrection without having to be super-crafty? Then don’t miss the ideas below!

Simple Ways to Teach Your Kids about Jesus' Resurrection

Moms today are too hard on themselves.

I say this from personal experience. I place ridiculously high expectations on myself as a mom and homemaker. Expectations I would never expect someone else to live up to. But for some reason, when it comes to myself, I expect more.

I look at Facebook or Pinterest at what other moms are doing, and I wonder why I don’t do a better job. Why I don’t make homemade laundry detergent, biscuits from scratch, and daily educational crafts with my children.

One of the reasons I avoided Pinterest for a long time was because of this very thing. I recognize my temptation to compare, and I know it’s not healthy.

When I compare myself with other moms, instead of inspiring me to do better, it cripples me.

I become so discouraged by what I’m not doing that I fail to do anything at all.

Today, I want to give you a chance to breathe.

If you’re constantly comparing yourself to other women and feeling like you come up short, rest in the knowledge that God made you exactly how he wanted you.

If you’re not crafty, then it’s because God didn’t make you that way. And that’s okay. On the other hand, if you are crafty (but not very good at the organization or cleaning), that’s okay too.

God didn’t want us to be the same. If He had, He would have created us that way.

With Easter approaching, I’m sure you’re feeling the pressure to teach your kids about the true meaning of the holiday. I know I am. Just a quick scan through Pinterest fills my screen with several ways to celebrate Easter.

It can be overwhelming, can’t it?

But teaching our kids about Jesus doesn’t have to be difficult.

I’m finally starting to realize I don’t have to do something extravagant in order for my kids to learn.

This Easter, I wanted to take some of the pressure off of you. If you want to do some of the awesome crafts you can find online, then by all means, do them. But if looking at these crafts only make you feel like less of a mom, I give you permission to shut down the computer and put down the glue stick. You don’t have to do some amazing craft for your kids to learn.

Instead, how about trying one of these simple activities below (all done by this very non-crafty, definitely not perfect mother):

Simple Ways to Teach Your Kids About Jesus’ Resurrection (when you’re not crafty):

1. Help them act out the story.

They’ll love it, and they’ll learn.

Or…use blocks or play-doh to build a tomb as you teach the story.

2. Make “Resurrection Rolls.”

Using crescent rolls, marshmallows, cinnamon, and sugar, use these delicious treats to teach your kids. As you put the marshmallow inside the crescent roll (and add the cinnamon and sugar for a treat), tell the story of Jesus’ death and burial.

Then, when you take the rolls out of the oven, tell about Jesus’ resurrection. (The marshmallow will leave the roll as it cooks, just like Jesus left the tomb.)

Teaching our kids about Jesus’ death and resurrection doesn’t have to be as hard as we sometimes make it!

It's so funny, b/c I always wish I could "let my home go" and just have fun more! I'm great at the cleaning, but not so great at the crafting:) God certainly made us all different:) Thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment, Callie.

Lindsey, I'm not a mom yet but the part about "if you are crafty (but not very good at the organization or cleaning), that's okay too" really struck home. I always feel I should do better but I know that cleaning and keeping things spotless is NOT my strength(and it's not an excuse for me to be lazy, I'm just not very good at it!). Thanks for your pearls of wisdom! 🙂

I wish I could take credit for the Resurrection rolls, but I saw a group doing it at my church 🙂 I loved it and have used it every year since then! I'm not crafty AT ALL either, so it's nice to know I'm not alone. I have to constantly remind myself, God gave me other strengths and it's okay. Thanks for commenting.

That marshmallow idea is brilliant! I have another year at least until my daughter can begin to understand the resurrection, but I'm going to tuck away this idea for the future. And thank you for the reminder to be content with how I am. I am not crafty, and I fear my kids will be lacking something because of it. But He'll provide me with the right tools at the right time to play and teach them things.
