4 Reasons to Read For the Love by Jen HatmakerJen Hatmaker, bestselling author of  7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess, has a new book out called For the Love.

I read a lot of books, and Jen’s books always make an impact on me. Here are my top 4 reasons you should read this book.

4 Reasons To Read For the Love

  • Jen is hilarious.

She really is so funny. There were numerous times as I read the book that my husband looked over at me with a look on his face that said, “What in the world is wrong with you?”

There are “Thank You Notes” spread throughout the book for the sole purpose of making you laugh. This is one of my favorites: “Thank you, Obvious Warning Labels. Without you I might have stuck my kid in a washing machine, lit a match near an open gas line, used my hair dryer while sleeping, or, God forbid, not realized eggs contain-wait for it-eggs…”

  • Jen is honest.

Jen doesn’t write soft stuff. She tells the truth and challenges readers to think differently about big things.

  • There are some awesome quotes you’ll want to write down.

"If folks don’t recognize God is good by watching His People, then we have tragically derailed." Jen Hatmaker

Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. “Balance. It’s like a unicorn; we’ve heard about it, everyone talks about it and makes airbrushed T-shirts celebrating it, it seems super rad, but we haven’t actually seen one. I’m beginning to think it isn’t a thing.” (4)
  2. “We are not good gods over one another; we are better humans beside each other.” (47)
  3. “Truthfulness hurts for a minute but silence is a kill shot.” (80)
  4. “If folks don’t recognize God is good by watching His people, then we have tragically derailed.” (192)
  5. “We can’t deliver folks from their pits, but we can sure get in there with them until God does.” (xvii, intro)
  • You’ll walk away from the book different.

The book is divided into four sections:

 For the Love of Yourself

For the Love of Your Church

For the Love of Your Neighbors

For the Love of Your Family

Each section challenged my way of thinking (much like 7 did when I read it).  It reminded me to offer grace-to myself, to my family, to my friends, and to my church.

If you’re looking for a new book to read this fall that will make you laugh and challenge you, For the Love is a great choice.
